I am a PhD student in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta. I obtained B. Eng and M. Sc degrees in Materials Science and Engineering in 2003 and 2006, respectively. During my master degree, I took a project to design bone fracture fixation devices by using biopolymers, and developed techniques for synthesizing a variety of materials suitable for biomedical use. In 2006 I entered U of A through a program sponsored by the China Scholarship Council, and continued with bone regeneration research in Dr. Hasan Uludağ’s lab. I am currently working on the development of systemic drug delivery systems for osteogenic growth factors. This project is focused on designing nanoparticles from proteins, polymers and lipids, and our ultimate object is to obtain an ideal carrier for osteogenic growth factors which can target them to the bone site and whereafter induce new bone formation.
