Poh was born and raised in Singapore. He came to Calgary in 2006 to complete a Bachelor in Health Sciences (Biomedical Sciences) at the University of Calgary. In 2009, he began a MSc in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (Biomedical Engineering) with Dr. Derrick Rancourt. Poh has received diverse training in molecular biology and cancer biology when he worked as a research assistant in the labs in Singapore and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary. His current research interest revolves around the construction of a biomimetic bioreactor which will be used for engineering embryonic stem cells-derived bone and cartilage tissue in vitro. When he is out of the lab, Poh enjoys photography, scuba diving, traveling, and playing soccer.
